Migration in the context of geopolitical turmoil
This dashboard features data on mobility linked to climate-related disasters across the Eastern and Horn of Africa. It is based on 5167 surveys with people internally and internationally displaced in Burundi, Djibouti, Kenya, Somalia, and South Sudan.
It is part of the MECMEA project to inform evidence-based and inclusive policy dialogue on climate and conflict-driven mobility.
Launched in May 2025, and for a duration of 18 months, MECMEA aims to strengthen governance around mobility linked to climate change and conflict by enhancing the evidence-base for local, national, and regional migration governance. MMC will carry out primary data collection on internal and cross-border movements in Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, and Burundi. The research looks at factors shaping the diversity of mobility outcomes linked to climate change in the region, and the complex linkages between climate and conflict.
