Migration and Climate in Africa: Emerging Dynamics and Challenges for the Future

The conference organised in Saint Louis, Senegal, brought together researchers, policymakers, practitioners, and civil society actors to foster dialogue on the interactions between climate change and human mobility across the continent.

Hiba Belhadj, MMC’s research specialist for West and North Africa, presented MMC’s analytical framework on climate and human (im)mobility and results from our recent research in Mali (upcoming publication).  The participation also aimed to strengthen engagement with researchers and organisations working on migration and climate, position MMC’s analytical approaches, and identify emerging trends and research priorities to inform future work.

The event was organised by the Department of Political Science and International Relations (PSIR) of the University of the Peloponnese, Greece, in collaboration with the Université Gaston Berger de Saint-Louis, and GERM: Laboratory for Studies and Research on Gender, Environment, Religion and Migration as part of the AfriquEurope project
