Migration in the context of geopolitical turmoil
Mixed Migration Review 2024
Migration politics, migration narratives and public opinions

Are you passionate about migration issues in your country and region? MMC is launching a short essay competition to showcase emerging perspectives on mixed migration. We invite writers from and based in Africa, Latin America, Asia and the Middle East, aged 30 or younger, to submit an essay exploring how current geopolitical turbulence and a shifting world order is shaping migration from the perspective of their country of origin.
Essays should provide insights on this theme: how the current geopolitical turmoil and shifting world order are shaping migration. This could include your perspectives on:
- Displacement and migration due to conflicts influenced by foreign intervention or shifting alliances
- Shifting asylum and resettlement policies, in particular where refugee status or resettlement has been impacted due to changing policies (e.g., US asylum restrictions, EU migration pact)
- The impact of strict border policies, deportations, or forced returns
- Economic hardships caused by cuts to development and humanitarian aid
Submit a short abstract (maximum 200 words) outlining your intended essay via this form by May 5, 2025.
Five selected winners will have their essays published in the Mixed Migration Review 2025 and receive a USD 1,000 prize.
