Data and Research on the Impacts of Environmental Change and Conflict on Mobility in East and the Horn of Africa

In-person

In 2025, MMC Eastern and Southern Africa | Egypt and Yemen will be collaborating with the Horn of Africa Regional Environment Centre & Network (HoAREC&N) at Addis Ababa University and several local partners in the context of a newly awarded project under the grant facility of the Support Programme to the Africa-EU Migration and Mobility Dialogue (MMD III). The project will focus on climate mobility across the Horn and East Africa, and is titled ‘Managing the impacts of environmental change and conflict on mobility in Eastern Africa through evidence-based inclusive policy dialogue and collaborative actions’ (MECMEA).

With primary data collection focusing on internal and cross-border movements scheduled to take place in Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, and Burundi, the research will look at factors shaping the diversity of mobility outcomes linked to climate change in the region and the complex linkages between climate and conflict.
