Introduction
A year-and-a-half after the outbreak of war in Sudan, millions of Sudanese and third-country nationals have been displaced, including 6.7 million internally displaced persons and over 1.8 million who have crossed borders into neighbouring countries as of 19 May 2024. For those leaving Sudan, a majority have fled to Chad, South Sudan, Egypt and Ethiopia.
Considering their sudden departures, this webinar will take a closer look at the challenges, risks and strategies of Sudanese and third-country nationals displaced by the war. The discussion will draw upon 704 surveys collected in Eastern Sudan, Juba (South Sudan), Addis Ababa from July – December 2023 as well as approximately 700 surveys collected in Eastern Sudan in 2024.
This webinar is the first in a series of research events organized by MMC and UNHCR’s Office of the Special Envoy for the Central and Western Mediterranean Situations.
