This event has passed. Please find the webinar recording below.

The International Organization for Migration’s (IOM) Regional Data Hub for the East and Horn of Africa and the Mixed Migration Centre’s (MMC) Eastern and Southern Africa | Egypt and Yemen Hub are organizing a webinar series over the course of 2023 with the aim to present the latest research and evidence on key migration trends and dynamics impacting the region. This series also seeks to provide a platform for discussion and information-sharing among policy actors and humanitarian and development actors working with migrants and refugees.

IOM and MMC are pleased to invite you to the first webinar of the series Relationships in transit | The dynamics between local communities in key transit locations in Djibouti and the Somaliland region and Ethiopian migrants along the Eastern Route which will take place on Tuesday, 14 March 2023, 15:00–16:00 EAT (13:00–14:00 CET).

Recognizing that local communities are key stakeholders in the migration process, MMC and IOM partnered to conduct research on the perceptions and dynamics between local communities and migrants in areas of high transit along the Eastern Route. The collaboration resulted in the publishing of the 2022 report Relationships in transit: Local communities’ interactions with transiting migrants along the Eastern Route in Djibouti and the Somaliland region and 2 data snapshots focusing on Hargeisa in the Somaliland region and Obock and Tadjourah in Djibouti. This research contributes to Strategic Objective 4 of the Migrant Response Plan (MRP) for the Horn of Africa and Yemen 2021-2024: building evidence, partnerships, and coordination to enhance the humanitarian response and migration management throughout the migration route. During the webinar, key findings from this research will be shared, and its implications for programming partners present in transit areas along the Eastern Route will be discussed.

A link to the online event will be shared with all registered participants.
