“There was nothing to return for” — Climate Crisis and Displacement in the Horn of Africa

MMC, in collaboration with the Danish Refugee Council, Mercy Corps and Save the Children, hosted a media breakfast to delve deeper into the topic of Climate Change and Migration ahead of the Africa Climate Summit and Africa Climate Week 2023 taking place in Nairobi in September 2023. MMC will present data from 2022 and 2023 focusing on climate-related mobility, and insights from its new study, “We Left After Losing Everything“, published this August. This study examines the effects of drought on internal displacement in Ethiopia and Somalia. Discussions will involve policy recommendations for African leaders who will be gathering for the inaugural Climate Summit.
