This report explores the migration experiences of Latin American and Caribbean children and adolescents on the move through South America. The study is based on 4Mi surveys and interviews with caregivers of children on the move, conducted in Peru, Chile, Bolivia, Argentina, and Uruguay between September and December 2024. Responding to the information gap that exists about this population in the region, the report presents findings on the risks that migrant children face en route and at destination, the protection mechanisms implemented by caregivers, the impacts of migration on children’s lives and well-being, and migrant children’s humanitarian needs. This document provides empirical evidence to inform decision-makers and humanitarian actors.

This document is based on quantitative and qualitative data collected by the Mixed Migration Centre (MMC) in Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina and Uruguay during the second half of 2024.

Informe de investigación con personas migrantes cuidadoras de menores de edad

Este informe explora las experiencias migratorias de la niñez latinoamericana y caribeña migrante en América del Sur. El estudio se basa en encuestas 4Mi y entrevistas a cuidadores de menores de edad realizadas en Perú, Chile, Bolivia, Argentina y Uruguay entre septiembre y diciembre de 2024. Respondiendo a la brecha de información que existe sobre esta población en la región, el informe presenta hallazgos sobre riesgos que la niñez migrante enfrenta durante la ruta migratoria y en los lugares de destino, mecanismos de protección implementados por los cuidadores, condiciones e impactos de la migración en niñas y niños, y necesidades humanitarias identificadas. Este documento proporciona evidencia empírica con el fin de informar a tomadores de decisiones y actores humanitarios.
