Protection concerns and movement intentions of refugees & migrants displaced by the Sudan conflict

This joint UNHCR-MMC infographic explores the journeys of more than 200 refugees and migrants who were in Sudan when the conflict broke out in April 2023.

Using a longitudinal research design, follow-up interviews were conducted six months after an initial baseline interview, providing insights into how refugees’ and migrants’ movement intentions, aspirations, and exposure to abuse and hardships evolved in the context of ongoing conflict.

Sample: 231 refugees and migrants
Location: Baseline interviews in Sudan, with follow-up interviews conducted in Sudan and nine other African countries (Central African Republic, Chad, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Libya, South Sudan and Uganda)
Timeline: All interviews were conducted in 2024
