UNODC Constructive Dialogue on Smuggling of Migrants

Hybrid

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is hosting a Constructive Dialogue on Smuggling of Migrants on 9 October 2023. Roberto Forin, Deputy Director of the Mixed Migration Centre, will open the panel focusing on the topics of developments, challenges and best practices in preventing and combating the smuggling of migrants by sea; and determining who to charge with the crime of migrant smuggling – who is and who isn’t a migrant smuggler?

Panelists from various organizations will facilitate an open discussion, and stakeholders will have the chance to ask questions and provide input during a tour-de-table. The discussion will focus on civil society’s role in implementing the Protocol against the Smuggling of Migrants by Land, Sea, and Air, States Parties’ technical assistance needs and related civil society engagement/participation, and gender, human rights, and victim-centered approaches to countering organized crime, in particular the smuggling of migrants.
